![]() Bulgarian Obudsman to Appeal against Natural Gas Price Hike Energy watchdog to put efforts into a possible district heating price decrease in autumn
Bulgaria’s ombudsman Maya Manolova is expected to submit an appeal with the Sofia Administrative Court today against the natural gas price hike approved by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) last week. Manolova said in an interview with BTV on Sunday that the watchdog decided on gas and heating prices in favour of district heating utility “Toplofikatsia Sofia”, allowing it to levy some BGN 11 m (about EUR 5.5 m) of surplus on actual consumption from its customers in Sofia. Sometimes these excessive incomes reached BGN 20 m for certain periods, Manolova stated. “These are unfounded decisions made by EWRC, they are not transparent and lack argumentation. These are lobbyist decisions favouring the strong of the day and in the detriment of Bulgarian citizens”, Manolova said. Meanwhile on Monday morning the Ivan Ivanov, chairman of the EWRC, told BNR that efforts would be made to decrease the price of district heating in the autumn. “Whether and how much of a decrease there could be depends on the price of oil derivatives which play an important role in natural gas pricing”, Ivanov said, adding that there were ‘certain tendencies’ implying that a downward price review could be possible in September. ![]() No published comments Login to comment |
