![]() Sofia for the Pedestrians Is New Chief Architect’s Vision for Bulgaria’s Capital The new Chief Architect foresees turning municipal spaces around residential blocks into community-owned plots in order to stimulate citizens to cater to green spaces
Zdravko Zdravkov, who was recently voted Chief Architect of the Bulgarian capital city Sofia, envisages a strategy to give the city back to the pedestrians, shifting the focus away from automobiles. Quality pedestrian routes will link the parks and squares, Zdravkov said in his first interview, for the Bulgarian National Television, as chief architect. Zdravkov said that the biggest issue in his view was the attitude towards pedestrians, as the streets of Sofia have been devised to cater to automobile traffic, adding that there have not been made any assessments of the quality of existing pedestrian routes to parks and public transport stations. Another highlight of Zdravkov’s strategy would be the amelioration of overbuilt residential areas. The new Chief Architect foresees turning municipal spaces around residential blocks into community-owned plots in order to stimulate citizens to cater to green spaces. Zdravkov also intends to allow the construction of new buildings only after the needed infrastructure is already in place. ![]() No published comments Login to comment |
