![]() Aurubis Bulgaria Unveiled New Rain Water Treatment Facility The invetsment ammounts to EUR 6.3 m Copper producer Aurubis Bulgaria inaugurated its new rainwater and surface groundwater treatment plant. The new EUR 6.3 million-facility was fully financed by Aurubis, CEO Tim Kurth told journalists during the official opening ceremony, attended by economy minister Bozhidar Lukarski, H.E. Detlef Lingemann and deputy-minister of environment Krasimir Zhivkov. The treatment plant is situated at the lowest point of the Aurubis complex and gathers the waters from the entire 2800-acres area of the plant near the town of Pirdop via a 10-km sewer system. All the processes are run by an automation system provided by Siemens. With the launch of the new water treatment facility, Aurubis Bulgaria became one of the few industries in the country to treat production, sewer and rain waters. The Bulgarian subsidiary of Germany’s Aurubis group has earmarked EUR 25 m by the end of 2014, from the yearly investments budget of EUR 44.2 m. EUR 50 m is targeted for plant updates and preparations for a planned overhaul in April 2016, Dr. Frank Schneider, member of Aurubis Group’s executive board announced. The Pirdop site is one of the best performing in the entire Aurubis group. The Pirdop mill, together with the one in Hamburg, Germany, is leader in terms of copper production. Environmental measures have ensured that Pirdop stays well above the average SO2 emission levels for this type of production in Europe and worldwide. A total of EUR 100 m have been invested in environment protection improvements since Aurubis enetered the Bulgarian market. The Pirdop mill got a new rooftop ventilation system in May 2014 and the rainwater capture facility is being improved. By the end of the year the site should be equipped with new FGDs. CEO Tim Kurth expressed his hopes that a gas pipeline will be built to supply not only the Aurubis site, but also residential and public buildings in the region. Currently, about 20 percent of our expenses go for energy. A gas main extension from Plovdiv towards Panagyurishte and Pirdop was announced in May by state-owned gas network operator Bulgartransgaz, as part of several network upgrades. The project was granted EUR 3.6 m (50 percent of the entire cost) from the Kozloduy Fund. The new gas pipeline extension is scheduled fro completion by the end of 2016 and would benefit seven municipalities from the Central Srednogorie Region – Pirdop, Zlatitsa, Panagyurishte, Strelcha, Mirkovo, Chavdar and Chelopech. ![]() No published comments Login to comment |
