A work group of CEZ’s Bulgarian subsidiary and the state-owned Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH) is still negotiating a way to finance the delayed modernisation of Varna TPP. This would allow the power plant, used as cold reserve unit until 2013, to operate beyond December 2014. Otherwise Varna TPP will have to be shut down due to not complying with environmental requirements.

In an e-mailed statement CEZ said that the work group will be expecting all involved parties to present suggestions until October 31.

Last week CEZ and BEH were envisaging establishing a joint-venture for the modernisation.

CEZ has invested BGN 600 m (EUR 300 m) in Varna TPP since acquired it in 2006.
