NewsFrom Bulgaria09.01.2014 17:33 Energy Minister Dispersed Rumours of Alleged Bulgarian Energy Holding Closure in 2016 BEH will not be closed down, nor will it be restructured. Instead, its role in balancing Bulgaria’s energy system will become even more important, Stoinev said. There are no plans for restructuring or closing the Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH), Bulgaria’s minister of economy and energy Dragomir Stoinev stated today. His statement followed a publication by Pressa Daily stipulating that energy experts have suggested to the ministry a scenario in which BEH, which encompasses the most powerful state-owned energy companies, should be closed down by 2016 in favour of just three companies – for electricity generation, hydropower and gas. The plan also calls for the division of the current Ministry of Economy and Energy. As a proof of BEH’s vitality minister Stoinev explained that a certain EU member country has approached him with the idea to use the Bulgarian model for creating a state-owned energy holding of its own. Stoinev declined to name the country. “BEH will not be closed down, nor will it be restructured. Instead, its role in balancing Bulgaria’s energy system will become even more important”, minister Stoinev affirmed. This could become reality when the much-delayed national electricity exchange kicks off sometime in 2014. “It will be operated by a state-owned company and not a private one”, Stoinev said. Earlier in October the rather obscure privately-held Bulgarian Electricity Exchange EAD stated its interest in assuming the role of operator of the future market. Nevertheless, alleged foreign partners Epex Spot, Edison S.p.A. and Terna S.p.A, denied any involvement in the venture. No published comments Login to comment |
