The 5-th International Congress “Environmental and energy principles of the sustainable development” will take place in Hotel “Sheraton” in Sofia, on April 8-th, 2014 at 9:30am. Co-organizers of the event are The Ministry of Environment and Water, The Ministry of Economy and Energy, Overgas, The European Business Council, The Energy Management Institute, The UN Global Compact Network Bulgaria, The Bulgarian Association Natural Gas and The Bulgarian Industrial Association.

Mr. Yanez Potochnik – European Commissioner for the Environment, will address the audience at the event via a recorded message. Representatives of E.ON Rurgas, Gazprom, The Energy Management Institute, Overgas, The UN Global Compact, The Bulgarian Industrial Association and The International Gas Union will participate with reports in the congress.

Some of the topics to be discussed at the forum:
- Why is natural gas the fuel of the future?
- How can we increase the energy efficiency in Bulgaria and Europe?
- Why is natural gas one of the main sources for low-carbon and competitive economy?
- What role do business and non-governmental organizations play in protecting the environment?

Initially, back in 1997, the event was simply a seminar based on preservation of the environment and sustainable energy issues. In 2006 the seminar expanded and shaped its current form – that of the International Congress.
