The papers on the Bulgarian stretch of the pipeline, as well as the environmental impact assessment were discussed.

Later yesterday the Bulgarian ministry of economy, energy and tourism confirmed that minister Dobrev and Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller talked about the 11,1% discount on gas import prices for Bulgaria, which will take effect retrospectively from April 1 until end-2012. Despite the negotiated discount the price of natural gas in Bulgaria went up with 13% as of April 1.

From the ministry informed that new work groups will be formed by June 15 which should prepare the parameters of the new gas contract with Gazprom which should take effect in 2013. By this date, the contracts with three gas suppliers which deliver Russian gas– Overgas Inc., Wintershall and Gazprom Export, will have expired. The idea of the ministry is to have a single supplier of Russian gas for Bulgaria.

In 2011, Gazprom delivered 2,81 bn cub. m of natural gas to Bulgaria, according the Gazprom’s data.

Minister Dobrev also met with Atomstroyexport president Sergey Kirienko on the cancellation of the contract for the Belene nuclear plant. Dobrev commented that the debt of Bulgaria to Atomstroyexport for the almost finished reactor is nowhere near EUR 1 bn. Dobrev also presented to Kirienko the plans for building a new capacity at Bulgaria’s sole NPP Kozloduy for which the reactor ment for Belene could be used.
