The call for tender for the Sofia metro line from the major road artery Tsarigradsko Shaussee to Sofia Airport was announced today, Metropolitan EAD CEO Stoian Bratoev said today.

He also announced that another line under construction – the one from Nadezhda district to Cherni Vrah Blvd. will be open for passengers in July, 2012.

Bratoev said that Metropolitan did its best to preserve the archeological artifacts discovered during the construction of St. Nedelia station, assisted by the Bulgarian ministry of culture.

He added that there will be a couple of underground parking lots next to important stations as well as three connections to the railway lines reaching the capital city. The parking lots will offer attractive prices in order to stimulate incoming passengers to use more public transportation.

Bratoev concluded that the opening of new metro lines guarantees 25% reduction of car traffic in Sofia, 18% less traffic accidents, as well as a reduction by 70,500 t of CO2 on year basis. The citizens would also spend 130 hours less in public transportation a year.
